Chris Mallyo has unveiled his latest design for the first generation of wind-powered bikes. The bike remains a prototype and is not yet available for purchase – Mallyo’s invention still has to undergo some additionalsafety testing before it can be released to the public. The bike’s frame has a light foam core with kevlar reinforced carbon fibber. The blades on both front and rear propeller blades are made of Tasmania Oak with the edges coated in carbon fiber. In order for the unit to work, the propeller blades must spin in opposite directions and there is a set of handle bars for controlling direction, lift and speed. The 30L fuel tank affords a travelling distance of up to 92 miles of 80 knots.
Once all safety concerns have been address, the limited production of the hover bike will set the price of the unit at US $40,000. Consumers will be able to operate the Hoverbike without a pilot license as it is being classified as an ultralife transportation unit.
