Italian industrial designer Michele Puzzolante has come up with a concept for the design of this self-sustaining floating resort/yacht hybrid. The Solar Floating Resort (aka SFR) is 20 meters long and offers luxury-seeking travellers an opportunity to experience marine life from a submerged pod, or the chance to sunbathe on the deck in an eco-conscious way. The SFR resembles a disc-like structure that connects and upper deck to an underwater pod/room that is encased in thick glass. This room offers a 360-degree view of the water world below, and spot lights are positioned in a way to ensure aquatic life is visible and easily photographed at night. The structure is mean to function as a solar powered entity through the use of photo electro chemical cells that are built into the walls of the vessel. These PECCs absorb and store artificial and natural light (unlike solar panels which only use natural sunlight as a source of energy, and are large and clunky in comparison). The resort deck offers a 6 person jacuzzi and is designed to sleep 6 (even though we can only see enough space for 4 to sleep?) with two identical master suites, a shared kitchen area and a communal living room area with cable TV (hmmm?). We hope for Puzzolante’s sake, that this magnificent design makes it way into the real world soon.
