Amazing Magnification of over 250 times Sand Looks
Amazing Magnification of over 250 times Sand Looks - All the squinting you can muster would never reveal the colours and shapes of grains of sand like the ones you see here. This amazing magnification of over 250 times shows what sand looks like up close. Professor Dr. Gary Greenberg has gone through a detailed process to bring us these images of magnified sand grains. As you may already know, all types of sand are derived from crystals, broken pieces of shells or crumbs of volcanic rock, and from these photos, the source of each grain becomes fairly obvious. And to think how much more beautiful the beach would seem if we all had super-duper magnified vision! Some of the sand featured in the photos above comes from Maui in Hawaii, Fanore in Ireland, Namibia in Africa and Lake Winnebigoshish in Minnesota.
