Canadian Lego Man Goes Into Space

We love proof that not all teens are knuckle-headed baboons (sorry kids, it’s usually true), which is why we are so impressed with 17 year olds Mathew Ho and Asad Muhammad of Canada who were able to launch a lego man with a Canadian flag into outer space for merely $400. How did they do it? The teens spent four months developing their Lego Space Man and used nothing more than a weather balloon, a homemade parachute, a Styrofoam box, 3 point-and-shoot cameras, a wide-angle video camera and a cell phone with a GPS app (to use when Lego Man In Space returned to Earth) to launch into space in January 2012. The teens strapped the lego man onto the contraption they designed and launched him out of a soccer field in Newmarket, Ontario. In 65 minutes, Lego Man In Space reached a height of approximately 80,000 feet and took just over half an hour to return to Earth (landing only 75 miles away from the launching point). We cannot believe how amazing this feat is for two very resourceful and bright-minded Canadian teens, and the incredible footage the Lego Man In Space captured during his journey makes this story even more incredible. Bravo, kids. Maybe there is hope for the adults of the future after all.
